Arrington Plant Adventure Zone Breaks Ground

Arrington Plant Adventure Zone Groundbreaking

On September 9, the Birmingham Botanical Gardens hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the Arrington Plant Adventure Zone, the new home for its Horticultural Therapy program. Former Mayors Richard Arrington, Jr. and Bernard Kincaid joined other Birmingham dignitaries before an invited crowd of more than 60 people. Refreshments were served to those in attendace at a reception following the ceremony. With expected completion in the Spring of 2012, the Arrington Plant Adventure Zone will serve as the new home for Alabama’s first Horticultural Therapy program.

Cocktails in The Gardens: “Green & Serene”

More than 300 guests attended the Birmingham Botanical Gardens second Cocktails in The Gardens event of the season. Themed “Green and Serene,” Matthew Devine of Birmingham’s own Downright provided the evening’s soundtrack, and guests toasted the evening’s signature cocktail, Midori Melon Punch. Imperial Catering provided the menu, which included chicken pesto pasta spoons and quesadillas. V.I.P. guests were treated to exclusive patio seating and an expanded menu which featured barbecue cocktail sandwiches and hummus with celery and carrot sticks.

The final Cocktails in The Gardens event of the season will return to the Hill Garden on October 13. “A Haunted Affair” will feature the music of local favorites Rollin’ in the Hay. Members of The Gardens are admitted free, with general admission tickets available for $15 and V.I.P. tickets available for $25.
